Job Title: Head of Projects
Working Arrangements: Full time, office based, Darlington
Salary Range: (£60,000 – 70,000 per annum + benefits)

Helixr is looking for a quality-focused candidate to spearhead and grow a team of Programme and Project Managers, embedding a high performing, accountable and customer driven culture.

Your role

As head of projects, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing organisational leadership to evolve and promote the project excellence practice
  • Embedding project delivery best practices across the organisation through a learning and development framework.
  • Developing and maintaining project management methods, tools sets and processes to drive client engagement, ensuring quality and compliance across programme deliverables.
  • Developing junior project managers through training, coaching and mentoring
  • Accountable for delivering of software product development (in the innovation centre)
  • Building and managing stakeholder relationships identifying the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups.
  • Effectively managing client escalations to resolution and facilitate business decision-making processes.
  • Ensuring that realistic project plans are maintained within area of responsibility and partnering with project/programme lead to ensure regular and accurate updates of overall project deliverables, status, risks and issues are maintained.
  • Applying due diligence, expertise and specialist knowledge to projects, ensuring they are delivered to time, scope, cost and quality \
  • Leading programme or project control boards, project assurance teams and quality review meetings ensuring project plans are maintained to enable regular and accurate communication to stakeholders.
  • Contributing to business development, driving new sales opportunities and optimising organic growth from a portfolio of clients
  • Ensuring effective stakeholder engagement at executive levels to secure client retention and consultancy engagements.
  • Writing white papers for publication on company’s website establishing recognition as a trusted advisor in areas of expertise.

The Scope of the work within the role will include:

  • Inputs into departmental budget
  • Designing and delivering a learning and development framework for embedding project delivery best practices using innovative education ideas
  • Exercising personal responsibility and autonomy within a clear framework/area of responsibility
  • Accountability for setting deadlines and objectives for self and the team
  • Responsibility for planning, designing and delivering workshops within area of responsibility
  • Contributing to marketing by writing case studies, insights and white papers
  • Identifying new leads and opportunities within existing clients and preparing proposals for new clients
  • Managing client relationships and engagements
  • Responsibility for planning, monitoring and delivering projects to time and budget, within area of responsibility
  • Responsibility for supplier contract negotiations and sourcing new suppliers within the supplier management process
  • Responsibility for managing medium off-shore / 3rd party consultants
  • Preparing and updating business strategies for growing project excellence practice in line with overall Helixr vision
  • Leading the decision making process in a specific area by influencing and making decisions
  • Using initiative to solve problems on a regular basis, based on industry experience
  • Contributing to new product development
  • Contributing to the quality control and management process
  • Contributing to the implementation of policy and strategy. Creatively applying a wide range of technical and/or management principles

What we are looking for

  • 10+ years’ experience leading large teams including project managers
  • Experience in software product development (Desired)
  • Demonstrated expertise in programme and project management with awareness of evolving best practices
  • Experience of designing and adapting project management methodologies and frameworks
  • Experience in developing business cases, strategies and roadmaps
  • Project Management Certifications preferred (PMP, Prince 2, Agile)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to listen, communicate and collaborate effectively
  • Proficient in relevant tools for Programme and Project Management (eg: MS Projects, Jira)

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing roles and priorities
  • Flexible with travel and working across time zones
